Rocky Mountain Elk Cow and Calf, Yellowstone National Park

This photo looks a bit different than the other elk photos I’ve been posting doesn’t it?  The elk don’t look much different even though these are Rocky Mountain Elk, not Tule elk.  It’s the habitat.  This photo was taken in Yellowstone National Park about a mile north of Mammoth.

  1. Lovely shot of the young one nursing, Jim! We’re beginning to plan our Yellowstone trip for September. It looks like we’ll be spending 3 days in Grand Teton and then 6 in Yellowstone. We’ll have to chat again sometime about your favorite places for wildlife in the park! (We’ve already got a room booked in Gardiner for our stay there — thanks again for the advice!)

    1. Thanks Pat. The first thing that comes to mind regarding Grand Teton is moose. You’ll have a good chance of seeing them there. It’s much harder to find them in Yellowstone. Grand Teton also has some great landscapes.
