Elephant Near Amboseli National Park, Kenya

Photo of an elephant walking with Mount Kilimanjaro in the background.

I photographed this elephant in the Selenkay Conservancy near Amboseli National Park, Kenya.  This conservancy, and many others leased from the Maasai, are private conservation lands that provide large acreages for wildlife habitat outside national parks in Kenya.  The conservancy idea is in use outside Kenya as well.

Lion Cubs, Kenya

Photo of two young lion cubs staring straight at the camera.

This past June I was photographing in the Ol Kinyei and Naboisho Conservancies just north of Maasai Mara National Reserve.  One evening we came upon this pride of lions with some cubs of various ages, including these two little ones.  They stared at me constantly.  I don’t know why. I certainly wasn’t the first human they had seen.  Anyway, I was happy to get some good eye contact.  Thank you, cubs.

Elephant, Amboseli National Park

Photo of an elephant facing the camera in Amboseli National Park.

I was in Kenya recently.  This photo is from Amboseli National Park which is known for its elephants.

I injured my right elbow before I left for Kenya and ordered a Gimpro Gear Safari Clamp which took all the weight off my right elbow.  An RRS fluid gimbal is mounted to it and I used a Canon R5 and Canon RF100-500mm lens the whole trip.  The clamp worked great mounted on a Gamewatchers Safaris truck.  It’s like having a tripod without having to deal with the legs in the vehicle.  They are very popular in South Africa.

Mother Leopard, Kenya

This photo is a close-up portrait of a mother leopard.

A mother leopard rests in a tree while her cub sits on the ground below her.  If you look closely, you will see she has at least three engorged ticks on her face.  Her cub has at least one on its face as well.

White Rhino, Nairobi National Park

This is a photo of a southern white rhino in Nairobi National Park.

A southern white rhino grazes at sunset.  There are two species or subspecies of white rhino, the northern white rhino and the southern white rhino.  The northern white rhino is down to the last two living individuals, both females, thanks to poaching.  The southern white rhino consists of about 16,000 individuals.
