Coyote At Sunset

Photo of a coyote stopping in a rancher's field at sunset.
Coyote, Point Reyes National Seashore

I photographed this coyote at sunset.  For landscape photography, sunrise and sunset are the best of times.  You go to the place you want to photograph and wait for that yellow, orange and/or red light.  Sunrise and sunset are great times to photograph wildlife as well.  Unfortunately, a wild animal is not always in front of you at sunrise or sunset.  So, when you have an interesting animal to photograph at those times you are fortunate.  That’s all it takes for me to consider the day a success.

  1. You got a great one there, Jim! I know just what you mean about there *not* being anything there. I recently found myself in the most beautiful golden light — maybe at the same time you saw this coyote — but I could find no subject to immortalize on film. I thought it was such a shame at the time, but I’m glad you caught it.

  2. Cool so with the cropped sensor and the 1.4 tele converter, you are really almost doubling the focal length.

You have some amazing shots BTW.

    Blessings on you and yours

    1. Thanks. I shoot mainly with the 7D, but sometimes need a full frame sensor camera. Life has gotten more complicated and costly in the digital era.

  3. Beautiful shot, Jim! The lighting in this shot does really look nice, and it especially makes the coyote’s eyes stand out. Really nice setting for it too — the long grass really looks good.
