Old Saint Hilary’s Church, Tiburon, California

This is a photo of historic Saint Hilary's Church, Tiburon, California with Angel Island, Alcatraz, and the San Francisco Skyline in the background.

Here is a view of Old St. Hilary’s Church at dusk with Angel Island, Alcatraz and the San Francisco Skyline in the Background.  I took this photo in 2011 and I’ve been meaning to re-process it for a while.

When I took this photo the Transamerica Pyramid was the tallest building in San Francisco at 853 feet.  Salesforce Tower became the tallest building in San Francisco at 1,070 feet when it was completed in 2017.

Technically, Old Saint Hilary’s Church is now Old Saint Hilary’s Landmark.  The Catholic Church built a larger, more modern church years ago and was going to demolish Saint Hilary’s when a group of citizens bought the property from the church to preserve it as an historic landmark.  It is a popular site for weddings and other events.  The property is administered and maintained by the Belvedere-Tiburon Landmarks Society.  You can find it here.

The grounds adjacent to the building contain a large wildflower area named the John Thomas Howell Wildflower Preserve.

Bull Tule Elk in Velvet, Point Reyes National Seashore

It’s Spring and the Living is Easy.

This photo was taken yesterday at Point Reyes National Seashore.  It’s a great time to be out with a camera if you like to photograph wildlife.  Members of the deer family are growing new antlers.  Babies are being born, both predators and prey.  I saw several elk calves yesterday.  Wildflowers are also underway.  If you look closely, you can see lots of douglas iris to go with the cow parsnip.

This is another photo from the same spot as yesterday’s photo.   It was taken moments earlier and with a wider field of view.  Historic Old Saint Hilary’s Church is in the foreground.  It was built in 1888.  Local citizens bought the property in 1959 after the Catholic Church deconsecrated it and was about to demolish it.  It is owned now by the Belvedere-Tiburon Landmarks Society and is used for weddings and other memorable events.  Between the church and San Francisco are Angel Island and Alcatraz Island.  The area around the church is known for its wildflowers.

Zabriskie Point at Sunrise, Death Valley National Park

I shot this scene in March of 2009.  Spring is a good time to be in Death Valley.  The weather is good.  Plus, it can be good for wildflowers if you time it right.  My favorite spot is Zabriskie Point.  It’s best seen at sunrise.  If you would like to purchase a print of this image click here.
